ASHES AND DIRT
Carefully, conservator Inga Vogel
examines urn no. 301. With spoon
and brush, she removes layers of
dirt covering the cremated human
remains.
In the Bobzin urnfield, in use from
around 500 BC to 100 AD, archae-
ologists uncovered 707 burials;
359 brittle urns were recovered in
one piece, wrapped in cling film for
protection, and taken to a lab.
