POTSHERD CALENDAR
Next to a jacked-up pipe segment
for the NEL in a field near Banzin,
archaeologists excavate the remains
of a Grubenhaus, or pit-house.
Its outline is discernible by three
rows of post-holes which show as
darker discolorations in the ground.
By comparing potsherds – at right –
they can date the dwelling to the
Migration Period between 400 and
600 AD.
