ROOTED IN SHAMANISM
Atop a mountain looking down
on Khar Khorin stands Khangai
Ovoo, a cairn shaped like a
shaman tent. Inside, a Mongolian
worshipper presses his brow
to the center post wrapped in
blue Hadag silk scarves. This is
where the shamanistic roots
of Lamaism as practiced in
Mongolia become most obvious.
